திரும்பி வராத தேரைக் கண்டு
தீயைப் போல் சினந்தான் சூரன்.
அம்புகள் சொரிந்தனர் மழைபோல
அவுண அரசனும், ஆறுமுகனும்!
மின்னும் சூலத்தை எறிந்தான் சூரன்!
விண்வழியே அது விரைந்து சென்றது.
வெளிக் கக்கியது தீ நாக்குகளை!
வெளிப்படுத்தியது இடி முழக்கங்களை!
வெளிக்கொணர்ந்தது படைக்கலன்களை.
வெளிக்காட்டியது அளவற்ற ஆற்றலை!
குலிசத்தினிடம் ஆணையிட்டான் முருகன்
“சூலப் படையைப் பற்றிக் கொண்டு வருக!”
தீயை உமிழ்ந்து விரையும் சூலத்தை
தீண்டிப் பற்றியது முருகனின் குலிசம்.
சூரன் அமர்ந்து இருந்த அரிமாவை
ஈராயிரம் கணைகளால் அழித்தான்.
மாறினான் சூரன் ஒரு சக்கரவாளமாக!
சீறி எழுந்தான் விண்ணில் சிறகடித்து!
பறவையைத் துரத்திய முருகன் தானும்
பறவையின் மீது அமர்ந்து கொண்டான்.
ஒரு மயில் வடிவு எடுத்தான் அமரர்கோன்
பறந்தான் முருகனைத் தாங்கி விண்ணில்.
கைவில்லைக் கறிக்க வந்த பறவையைக்
கைவாளால் இரண்டாக்கினான் முருகன்!
இந்திரன் முதலிய தேவர்கள் அங்கே
இன்பக் கூத்தாடினார்கள் மகிழ்ந்து!
வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
4#13g. The fight and the flight!
When the chariot IndrajnAlam did not go back to Soorapadman, he became very angry. He showered his arrows on Murugan and Murugan also showered his arrows on Sooran. Soorapadman threw his trident on Murugan. It sped fast through the sky emitting fire, thunder claps, war weapons and exhibited immense destructive power.
Murugan commanded his kulisam (vajrAyutham) , “Go forth, arrest and control Sooran’s trident” Murugan’s kulisam hurried and took hold of Sooran’s fiery trident. Murugan killed the lion on which Soorapadman was seated.
Now Soorapadman changed into a ChakravALa bird and took off in the sky. To chase a bird, Murugan needed to ride a bird! Indra assumed the form of a peacock, carried Murugan on his back and started chasing the huge ChakravALa bird.
When the Sooran-turned-into a bird came to bite off the bow of Murugan, he cut the bird into two with his mighty sword. The Devas started dancing with joy!
