வீரவசனங்கள் பேசினர் இரு வீரர்களும்.
எய்தனர் அம்புகள் நாண் ஒலியை எழுப்பி.
எதிர்த்த அம்புகள் அழித்தன ஒன்றை ஒன்று!
ஆயிரம் கணைகள் எய்தான் அவுணன்!
பாய்ச்சினான் வீரவாகுவின் நெற்றியில்!
ஆயிரம் கணைகள் செலுத்தினான் வீரவாகு;
அழித்தான் அவுணனின் தேரை, வில்லை!
தடிப்படையை எடுத்து வீசினான் அவுணன்;
பொடிப்பொடி ஆக்கினார் அதை வீரவாகு.
காற்றுப் படையைச் செலுத்தினான் அவுணன்;
காற்றுப் படையைச் செலுத்தினார் வீரவாகு!
யமப் படையைச் செலுத்தினான் அவுணன்;
யமப் படையைச் செலுத்தினார் வீரவாகு.
ஞாயிற்றுப் படையைச் செலுத்தினான் அவுணன்;
ஞாயிற்றுப் படையைச் செலுத்தினார் வீரவாகு,
நஞ்சு பாய்ச்சிய நூறு கணைகளை அவுணன்
நெஞ்சில் பாய்ச்சினார் வீரவாகுத் தேவர்.
தேரில் விழுந்தான் மார்பில் குருதி பொங்க!
நேரில் வந்த நமனும் அஞ்சினான் நெருங்க!
ஆபத்தில் உதவிடும் காளியின் வழிபாட்டை
அக்கினி முகன் செய்து வந்தது உண்டு.
உயிர் பிரியும் நேரத்தில் காளியைத் தனக்கு
உதவி செய்யுமாறு பிரார்த்தனை செய்தான்.

4#8b. VeerabAhu VS Agni Mukhan.
VeerabAhu went near Agni Mukhan. Both of them spoke valorous words. Both of them shot their arrows. The arrows were well matched and hence destroyed each other. Agni Mukhan shot one thousand arrows and hurt VeerabAhu’s forehead. VeerabAhu shot one thousand arrows and shattered Agni Mukhan’s chariot and his bow.
Agni Mukhan threw his daNdam and VeerabAhu promptly shattered it with his arrow. Agni Mukhan shot his VAyu astram. VeerabAhu also shot his VAyu astram. Agni Mukhan shot the asthram of Yama. VeerabAhu also shot the same. Agni Mukhan shot the asthram of Sun and VeerabAhu also shot the same.
VeerabAhu shot one hundred poisonous arrows on Agni Mukhan’s chest. He collapsed on his chariot bleeding heavily. Naman who came in person to take his life away was afraid to go near him. Agni Mukhan used to worship a KALi who would help him in in the face of any danger. He remembered her and prayed to her to come to his help.
